WS12EX POSIWIRE® Series ASM
In locations where combustible dust is present, the maximum allowable surface temperature of installed devices is limited to only 2/3 of the minimum ignition temperature of the surrounding combustible dust. If there is a risk of dust accumulation, further considerations such as the smoldering point of the dust and additional temperature safety distances must be evaluated. The WS12EX series was developed to meet these safety requirements related to combustible dust.
The position sensor housing is rated IP67 and is available with the industry standard analog outputs: 0-10VDC and 4-20mA. The linearity is +/- 0.10 % of full scale with an optional +/- 0.05 % full scale. A precision potentiometer is utilized for the rotary sensing element. The WS12EX series achieves the requirements of EX Dust Explosion-Proof Category 3, Zone 22 for non-conductive dust.
The WS12EX series was designed for numerous industries where combustible dust is present: saw mills (saw dust), food processing (flour dust) and other harsh application (carbon dust).

For over 30 years, ASM has been continually developing the POSIWIRE® range of cable extension position sensors. POSIWIRE® sensors have been successfully used in a wide range of automated process control applications by using a flexible, stainless steel cable that is wound with only a single layer around a cable drum. This drum is coupled to an angular sensing device such as a potentiometer or encoder for an electrical signal.
Building upon this proven technology, the new POSITAPE® series replaces the measurement cable with a thin, highly flexible stainless steel band. The sensor operates in a similar manner as a tape measure. Advantages of this technology is the ability to have a long measurement range in a relatively compact housing, also the virtually unlimited life of the metal tape and its suitability for the use in confined locations where pulleys must be used. Due to the smooth surfaces of the tape, the risk of ice build up is reduced and an optional brush is available to wipe off debris from the tape as it is being retracted.

The purpose of draw wire sensors POSIWIRE® is to transform position of a linear and guided movement into an elctrical signal.
Linear motion of the measuring cable (flexible stainless steel) is converted into rotation by means of a precision cable drum. A spring motor provides torque for the cable retraction. Special design assures precise and reproducible winding of the measruing cable.
Cable extraction or retraction is transformed into an elctrical signal. Depending on application different sensing elements are used.
Measuring ranges from 0-60000 mm are available.

The WB17KT series is available with analog 0-10V, 4-20mA or 1 kOhm outputs. This sensor is also available with either absolute digital SSI or CAN-Bus outputs. The electrical connection can be made with either a M12 or D8 connector.
